In providing civil legal assistance to sexual assault victims, the Victim Rights Law Center relies substantially on volunteer attorneys. Our pro bono attorney program, the Rape Survivors’ Law Project, which began as a joint venture with the Women’s Bar Foundation of Massachusetts, pairs low-income rape victims with trained, volunteer attorneys and paraprofessionals who give them a voice in the legal system. Without these volunteers, we would not have the resources to represent all of the rape victims who walk through our doors.
Shining Star Award
The Victim Rights Law Center's (VRLC) cadre of pro bono attorneys has grown to more than 170 lawyers representing more than 20 area firms. Each year the VRLC and a panel of pro bono peers pay special tribute to a "shining" attorney whose exemplary dedication and accomplishments have proven most inspiring: The aptly named Shining Star Award was established in 2002, and we have since developed an annual Shining Star Awards Reception which takes place every June. This collegial evening celebrates individuals in the field who have improved the lives of sexual assault survivors through exemplary service, namely the Shining Star Award Recipient and our entire cadre of pro bono attorneys. Past Shining Star Award Recipients include:
