If you have been raped or sexually assaulted you may experience
a wide range of social and legal problems as a direct result
of these crimes.
- Your physical safety and your housing may be in jeopardy.
- You may have job or school problems.
- You may have questions about your privacy rights and your immigration
status.
- You may have questions about the criminal or civil justice system.
- You may want justice and to stop more assaults from happening
to others.
Fortunately, there are legal remedies and free legal assistance
that may help. At the Victim Rights Law Center, our goal is to help
you understand your legal options. We provide sexual assault victims
with free and confidential legal advice.
If you are a sexual assault victim, we believe you have a right
to make your own choices about how to respond to what happened to
you.
If you are a sexual assault victim, this section of our
website contains basic legal information. Each page explains a different
legal problem (for example, privacy problems, education problems,
immigration problems or employment problems). However, the law described
here is primarily related to Massachusetts. If you live in another
state, you will need to talk to an attorney or advocate in your
state.
If you are an attorney or sexual assault advocate, please
see our Legal Resources for Advocates Section
for more advanced legal information.
