The Victim Rights Law Center (VRLC) is delighted to announce a two-day legal conference in New Orleans! This conference will bring together lawyers from around the country to use the civil legal justice system to better respond to the needs of sexual assault survivors. Lawyers interested in strengthening their legal expertise in practice areas key to serving sexual assault survivors such as privacy, safety, housing, immigration, education and employment alongside a national network of lawyers are encouraged to attend.

Where: Bourbon Orleans Hotel, New Orleans, LA

Who: Attorneys/legal professionals from legal aid, coalitions, community nonprofits, and private practice. Office for Violence Against Women grantees should seek approval from grant managers to use funding.

Cost: $399.00 per person

The Victim Rights Law Center is hosting a conference for attorneys who are assisting sexual assault survivors with their civil legal needs across the country. This conference is two days and will consist of two workshop tracks: one for practitioners new to working with sexual assault survivors and one for more advanced practitioners.

Topics will include, but are not limited to:

  • conducting a holistic, comprehensive legal intake
  • conducting safety planning with sexual assault survivors
  • determining other ways to navigate survivors’ safety needs
  • carefully considering survivors’ privacy and potential privacy implications
  • working with population specific survivors, including LGBTQ survivors and minors
  • assisting with online and technology, education, immigration, employment, and housing needs
